Lights Out!

The company I work for recently organised a competition to coincide with our involvement in Earth Hour. The competition involved designing a poster to promote the campaign, while ensuring all brand assets were well representeted.

Turns out the winning entry was mine! My poster went on to be displayed in our lightboxes leading up to the campaign. I kept the message short and simple, with a clear call to action "Lights Out Sydney." The message and imagery can both be tailored geographically, providing additional cut through and engagement.

I provided a full write up here and more information is available via the Earth Hour site (yes, that should be a link...slight problem with the site!)

Simple seeds

Everything ties back to Twitter...
One of the (many) reasons I love Twitter is because it enables me to cross paths with people, ideas or groups which otherwise would remain just out of reach.

My newest find has been an organisation called "Wake up Sydney!"

I won't even try and acknowledge which twitter path led me to this discovery, but suffice to say that what I saw was interesting enough for me to stay longer than the obligatory 3 minutes.

Talking about my...revolution?
Basically the group aims to “bring Sydneysiders together to ignite a revolution toward a more kind, conscious and sustainable world.”

What struck me most was the fact that unlike other groups who attempt to play in this space, Wake up Sydney invites those interested to start taking part – whether it be by attending an evening, joining one of their campaigns and start looking at your world differently or getting inspired by watching a video- all in the quest for social change.

FREE!!
The last tab I visited was one screaming “Free Gift”. I admit for a split second I thought I fell for the pitch hook line and sinker, but unlike the many marketers/bloggers/copywriters in the blogosphere who hook you in with their well thought out copy, then go in for the sell (receive one email alert a day/unlock the secrets of/let me tell you about...) this gift is a natural extension of their central themes – and yes it was free!

I signed up for my kindness cards – “pitched as a game worth playing - anonymous kindness between people” - and received them in the mail today in 100% post consumer recycled paper (I wouldn't expect anything less!)

Scrawled across the envelope was a handwritten note from the founder Jono thanking me for getting involved. Inside I found beautiful artwork (courtesy of an artist called Kareena Zerefos) and a pack of five cards urging me to “do something kind” – now I just have to find some random acts of kindness that I can bestow onto Sydney :)
